Asi que en esta (primera) visita solo hicimos lo que seguramente hacen todos: viajar en el vaporetto (un autobús acuático) por el Gran C****, visitar la Plaza de San Marcos, cruzar el puente Rialto, dar un paseo en góndola, visitar el museo de la Accademia, algunas iglesias y caminar y caminar. Nos pareció que una visita más productiva tendría que hacerse en una estación distinta al verano, no tanto para evitar el calor sino a la multitud de visitantes. Venecia tiene magia, magia que se aprecia aun en una visita tan corta. Se puede imaginar lo extraordinariamente esplendorosa que sería en sus años de apogeo, con sus palacios, sus iglesias, su lujo y sus c****es. Provoca enterarse de su historia: la Serenísima Republica de Venecia existió durante más de mil años, desde la caida del imperio romano hasta pasado el renacimiento. Se explica entonces que al regresar de Venecia tomara la lectura de una historia de Venecia, la que todavía me tiene fascinado (John J. Norwich: A history of Venice, Vintage 1989). Ferrari’s 2011 Formula One car will be called the F150 to celebrate this year’s 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, the team announced on Wednesday.

The car, to be raced by Spaniard Fernando Alonso and Brazilian Felipe Massa, will be unveiled at the Maranello factory on Friday before the first pre-season test in Valencia next week.

“Ferrari is an expression of Italian excellence, talent and creativity,” said Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo on the team website (www.ferrari.com).

“All the men and women who put so much effort and passion into their work at Maranello share the pride and responsibility of representing our country around the world and it is in this spirit that we chose to dedicate this car to an event that is so important for the whole of Italy.”

Ferrari said Italian President Giorgio Napolitano had “expressed his appreciation of the initiative.”

The season starts in Bahrain on March 13.
